The essential oils, also known as ethereal oils, are extracted from different plants for different uses: food&beverage, cosmetics, aromatherapy, medicine. The Bergamot essential oil, also known as 'bergamot essence', is a cold-pressed etheric oil produced by cells inside the rind of a not edible fruit, the bergamot orange fruit (Citrus aurantium bergamia), grown in coastal region of the province of Reggio Calabria, South Italy. Today the oil is extracted mechanically with machines called peelers, which scrape the outside of the fruit under running water to get an emulsion channeled into centrifuges for separating the essence from the water. The Bergamot essential Oil has a lemon scent, fruity-sweet with mild spicy note. It is used in the alimentary industry to prepare sweets and alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages and drinks, as well in the farmaceutical industry and in the perfumery.
